Crossplay setup checklist

Do this once on each platform before assembling the fireteam.

1. Install the current game update.
2. Link the platform profile to the Microsoft account you intend to keep.
3. Enable cross-network multiplayer and communication in platform privacy settings.
4. Exchange Xbox Gamertags, not only PlayStation, Steam, or console display names.
5. Add the Gamertags in the game's social menu and send the fireteam invite.

Choose the fireteam leader

The leader's campaign state determines which missions, rally points, and Skulls the lobby can select. Make the player with the needed unlocks leader before entering Campaign.

1. Leave the existing fireteam if the wrong player is leader.
2. Have the progression owner create a new fireteam.
3. Invite the remaining players again, then select the mission.

Troubleshoot a platform pair

If one player cannot join while others can, compare that player's account and privacy configuration with a working player on the same platform.

1. Check for a mismatched update or pending restart.
2. Confirm the Microsoft account link has not changed.
3. Remove duplicate or outdated Gamertag entries.
4. Temporarily test a fresh fireteam from the affected player's lobby.
5. Use official Halo Support if account linking or service status is the blocker.

Crossplay is not split-screen

Crossplay connects separate devices online. Split-screen puts two players on one PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. A split-screen pair may still join online players, but all online account and lobby rules continue to apply.
